“A big TV room, basketball court, pool, gym, tick tick tick!” Jason laughs as he counts off the features of his home that he loves the most.
He and his wife Brooke sit in a sun-drenched, open-plan kitchen, dining and living room. Floor to ceiling windows on one side overlook their leafy vantage point high up in Deakin, whilst sliding glass doors on the other side, lead out to their resort-style garden featuring a half-size basketball court, beautifully landscaped pool and huge outdoor entertaining area.
“I love this space right here,” smiles Brooke gesturing to the light-filled room they’re sitting in. “This is where I probably spend most of my time. In winter it’s beautiful with the sun streaming in and I love that I can easily see what the kids are up to, when they’re playing outside.”
The Pye’s four-bedroom home has been perfectly designed to take advantage of its location on a corner block, in a quiet, established street. Its striking contemporary style incorporates clean lines and an innovative mix of materials, whilst working in harmony with the elegant streetscape.
Having found and fallen in love with the block, with the help of Classic Constructions, Jason and Brooke wanted to create a home that would meet all the needs of their young family now, and in the future. With some ideas of what they wanted for their forever home, they met with the Classic Constructions’ architect and design team to help them bring it all together.
“We wanted to make the outdoor area liveable but fun for the kids and functional enough to have a dog and be a house for entertaining,” explains Jason.
“And they helped us do that, within our budget,” adds Brooke. “In fact, that was the appeal of going with Classics’ because they are with you from the beginning right through to completion, so they can design a home that fits within your budget.”
The design process was very important for the couple and they were extremely grateful for the expertise that the Classics’ team were able to bring to the table.
“We spent a lot of time upfront in the design phase and they were very patient with us,” explains Brooke. “I think we had three designs in total before we decided on one, but it was so worth it in the end to ensure that we got what we wanted.”
Together with the Classics’ team, they created a design that would evolve with their growing family and put an emphasis on low maintenance, high lifestyle living.
“We purposely designed the kids’ living spaces to be down one end of the house and for us to have our separate space upstairs,” says Brooke, referring to their parents’ retreat with a private balcony overlooking views of Black Mountain Tower.
“It's great to have almost a kids’ wing,” agrees Jason. “They love it down there. It's their own private space that also connects outside, so they can go in and out really simply.”
Fun and relaxation are big priorities in the household and the home has been designed to cater to the needs of all ages.
“I love spending time with the kids playing on the basketball court, and when we’re entertaining it’s great to be able to look down at the pool and know that the kids are safe and having fun,” says Jason. “It’s also really comfortable down in the lounge room in winter. Nice glass of red by the fireplace. It's extremely relaxing.”
“One of my favourite places to sit is upstairs on the balcony,” adds Brooke. I just love looking out at the views.”
With the design agreed on, the remainder of the process was, according to the Pye’s extremely seamless and stress-free.
“Classics’ selected an interior designer for us, and she helped us pick all of the fixtures and fittings and design the cabinetry,” says Brooke. “She was really great and even helped with choosing furniture and artwork.”
“Matt was our foreman,” adds Jason. “And we had a great connection with him. He was always available, which is huge. You always hear horror stories about builds, but for us that wasn’t the case at all.”
When asked what they think the secret was to a worry-free build process, Jason reflects.
“If you've got a good connection between the architect and the builder, and you have good communication, then that is what makes the process so smooth,” he says. “And we definitely had that with Classics.”
