Classic Constructions’ beautifully curved display home in Denman Prospect has been judged the best display home in the ACT by the Housing Industry Association (HIA)

The Como is now in the running to be awarded HIA national Display Home of the Year.

Judges made their determination based on quality of workmanship, design effectiveness including environmental sustainability, innovation, plus visual and market appeal.

They praised the home’s “innovative and striking” design with “a floor plan to suit today's modern family while ensuring flexibility for future generational living”.

Indeed, the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom display home features several multi-functional spaces such as the lower-level living area. This area can be used as a third living area, kids’ rumpus, formal lounge, home office or even a self-contained unit with its own bedroom, bathroom and space for a kitchenette.

“Blending the timeless elegance of a curved facade, synonymous with deco architecture, with modern design principles and functionality, this home is as practical and energy efficient as it is aesthetically pleasing”, the judges said.

Classic Constructions director Jason Tanchevski said the award was an exciting recognition for the team.

“Our whole team feels a sense of pride. Now that we have been acknowledged with the Display Home of the Year award, it’s an extremely satisfied and proud bunch we have at Classic, and is validation for the hard work and commitment that everyone produces in developing an award-winning project.”

Of course, this is not a first for the company, which has been building homes in Canberra for nearly 40 years.

“We are proud to say that we won our first HIA award back in 1992. We have continually won excellence awards with HIA on a consistent basis ever since. There would be more than 40 HIA awards over the years,” Jason said.

While the competition is tough for the national title, he is crossing his fingers.

Winning Display Home of the year signifies the quality of “our efforts to innovate our ideas and experience into a Display Home project, where we have an opportunity to produce a product that showcases what we can do”.

“We have always tried to use each Display Home we build as the opportunity to implement new ideas, new building methodology, techniques and our quality to demonstrate to the public what can be achieved.”
