The Como – ahead of the curve
According to scientific research, humans are hard-wired to feel soothed and happy by curves in a built environment. And from the moment you set eyes on the elegant façade of the Como, to the continuation of fluid lines throughout the interior, it’s easy to see why.

This stunning four bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom display home in Denman Prospect commands a gracious and unique presence, that works harmoniously with the surrounds.
“Because of the fall of the land and the scale of the house towards the street, the home had the potential to be very imposing,” explains architect Robert Knee. “By introducing the curves, in combination with brickwork, rendering and a composite timber look castellation cladding, the Como achieves a softer, more unique and welcoming street presence.”
Blending the timeless elegance of a façade, synonymous with deco architecture, with modern design principles and functionality, the Como is as practical and energy efficient as it is aesthetically pleasing.
“The split-level design assists in optimising solar access to the main living areas, to reduce reliance on mechanical heating whilst showcasing the surrounding rolling views and providing direct access to the alfresco area and back yard,” explains Robert.
A flexible layout was also a key factor in the design process.
“We created several multi-functional spaces such as the lower-level living area, which can be used as a third living area, kids’ rumpus, formal lounge, home office or even a self-contained unit with its own bedroom, bathroom and space for a kitchenette,” says Robert. “This is becoming an increasingly important consideration as multi-generational living becomes more vital in our community.”
Not only does the home showcase meticulous design and craftsmanship, it also demonstrates how the Classic Constructions collaborative process delivers a superior result.
“Our interior designer, perfectly articulated the exterior architectural language throughout the home, most notably through the curves in the internal walls,” he says.
“After seeing Rob's plans, I was very excited to be involved in the project,” says Interior Designer Kylie Radburn. “Because curves give you so much scope to do something really quite different.”
One of the standout features that hits you when you walk into the open plan kitchen area are the stunning curves in the kitchen joinery.
“I wanted to continue the curves that Rob had for the exterior throughout the home and on the island bench,” explains Kylie. “The curvature is repeated on the feature range hood and designed as a stand-alone piece on the back wall creating a focal point in the kitchen.”
Kylie continued the elegant fluidity throughout the home via bespoke joinery for sideboards and entertainment units, light fittings, mirrors, flush plates, Villeroy and Boch rounded fixtures and, most strikingly, the beautifully curved vanity units.
“I selected a mosaic white finger tile, also referred to as a Kit Kat tile to be laid on the curved wall in the shower and a beautiful sage green in that same range for the Master ensuite and the powder room to provide highlights and bring in subtle colour,” explains Kylie.
Another example of how the collaborative process produces great results is in the window furnishings for the enormous floor to ceiling glass windows that highlight the views.
“The living space is over 3 meters tall,” explains Kylie. “Because I was involved in the early stages, I was able to ask the team to design and build bulkheads in the ceiling, that allow the stunning sheer curtains to seamlessly drape the entire height without seeing the tracking. Those details make a huge difference to the overall effect.”
The shade of white Kylie selected for the exterior rendered curves is also continued throughout the interior of the home, and the timber flooring teams perfectly with the front facade, to ensure a harmonious and cohesive result.
“This is one of the main reasons why clients love working with us,” says Jason Tanchevski, Director of Classic Constructions. “Because all our specialists are involved from the beginning, we can not only foresee and plan against any complications, but build on the original vision for the home to create an outstanding end result.”
